Disclaimer -I have no formal training in taste evaluation of ANYTHING! All opinions are my own.
So.. A friend of mine gifted me with a cider I'd never had, nor heard of. It is out of Quebec, and is called Mystique.

The label indicates this is a Crackling Light Cider, from Ciderie Covey hill (Hemmingford (Quebec).
As far as I can find, the website is here, but, I cannot find this cider referenced on that website, after a VERY perfunctory search.. It may be there yet..
So, on to the tasting..
I poured it at refridgerator temp, into a 20-ish ounce snifter. Carbonation was very light, with a thin head that dissipated quickly.
Initial taste... I have to say.. unfortunately.. was.. "juicy". There was plenty of sweetness, and plenty of apple flavor, but both tended to remind me of a non-alcoholic sparkling cider that is readily available around here. In defense of Mystique, this cider is not nearly as sweet as the on-alcoholic stuff I am referring to.. but the taste definitely reminds me of a lot of the large
scale commercial ciders that are available in the USA. We snobs call them "alcopops". It's definitely hard to get around the "apple juice" taste. I read somewhere that a "good" cider tastes like apples in much the same way that a good wine tastes like grapes. Those are someone else's words, and I would like to be careful about endorsing them wholeheartedly.. but.. I can see the point. So, my thoughts are, this is pretty drinkable, but with my tendency towards the dry ciders, it may not be my thing.
Thanks for listening!
Posting a test comment. I spent the last month tying to figure out why comments weren't working for this post, and it seems that all I had to do was "edit" the post, and set comments to on. Not sure how they got turned off...
